Plans have been submitted to add penthouse apartments to a block of flats.

Martello Lofts in Portland Road, Hove, is currently four to five storeys high, with an empty top floor penthouse space that was left partially built in 2016.

Martin Homes has now submitted plans to Brighton and Hove City Council to replace this storey and add a smaller extra storey on top of that for some duplex flats.

Each flat would have access to its own outdoor roof terrace.

According to the developer, these homes would have use of three existing unallocated parking spaces on the site, alongside space to store bikes.

HNW Architects, on behalf of Martin Homes, said: "The new penthouse apartments will make good use of land without negative impacts upon the surrounding neighbourhood.

"The proposal will also deliver new homes in line with housing need in a highly sustainable location.

"It is recognised that these are unprecedented times in terms of housing demand and we believe that this proposal makes the most of a ‘brownfield’ opportunity to create good quality new homes."

A decision on whether to approve the plans is set to be made by June 26.
